When NILCO was created, its structure in Africa was of modest size. In the middle of the 1950s, the company had grown into a vast network of research centres that were spread over the whole territory and each had a field of specialisation. Yangambi, downstream of Stanleyville, was the flagship research centre. Map of the NILCO research centres in Belgian Congo and Rwanda-Urundi, 1958, published in In dienst van de Congolese landbouw. Het Nationaal Instituut voor Landbouwstudie in Belgisch-Congo (NILCO), Brussels, 1958.
