For a long time, people who wanted to travel to the colony had to do so by boat. In 1928, Edmond Thieffry, co-founder of SABENA, received 25000 Bfr. to establish an airway connectionto the colony. Three years later, Thieffry succeeded in flying from Belgium to Congo in 51 days.
